LET'S CELEBRATE! (PART 2)

Black women in the early days of America  shouldered many responsibilites and took on many roles to help birth and sustain generations both then and now.  They were midwives, servants, matriachs, wet nurses to other women's babies, mistresses to slave owners, day laborers and mothers. However, there were those who defied the odds and were pioneers on various fronts. (Above left, Besssie Coleman first African American female licensed aviator, right Harriett Tubman, Conductor of the Underground railroad that helped slaves in the south escape to the North, Madame C. J. Walker first  African American female millionaire). Today black women all over the country and the world hold positions as First Ladies, Teachers, Artists, Scientists, Engineers, Inventors, Aviators, Professors, Doctors, Lawyers, Corporate Executives, Professional Athletes, Front runners in  the entertainment industry, Entrepenuers, and Ministers of the Gospel.  This list is not at all exhaustive.  In other words, despite the extreme hardships black women in America have faced and still face, we have emerged with dignity, grace, and beauty.  Our destiny will not be denied and the purpose and plan for our lives will not be thwarted or aborted.  So, black women in America and all over the world I salute and celebrate you for the best is yet to come!

LET'S CELEBRATE!!

In celebration of Black History Month, I would like to give a shout out to men of color who have made an idelible mark on our nation and the world.  Men who have been courageous, confident, victorious, intelligent, articulate, and who have beat the odds despite pitfalls, road blocks, snares, and oppression.  So, to black men in our nation and all over the world, I salute you, honor you, and celebrate the day you were born!

BLACK MAN

I LOVE THE ONE CALLED BLACK MAN
A PRECIOUS GEM IN ALL THE EARTH
RESILIENT, STRONG, COURAGEOUS
SOME HAVE DEVALUED HIS WORTH

I LOVE THE ONE CALLED BLACK MAN
FROM THE BOSOM OF THE LORD HE HAS COME
TESTED AND TRIED STRIPPED OF HIS PRIDE
A REFLECTION OF THE GLORIOUS ONE

I LOVE THE ONE CALLED BLACK MAN
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD HE HAS MADE
INVENTIONS, SERVICE, SCIENCE, THE ARTS
OPEN DOORS FOR OTHERS HE'S PAVED

I LOVE THE ONE CALLED BLACK MAN
FROM THE THROWS OF ADVERSITY HE'LL ARISE
SHACKLES OF SLAVERY, BONDAGE, DEGRADATION
AND THE OPPRESSIVE GRIP OF APARTHIED

I LOVE THE ONE CALLED BLACK MAN
HE PRESSES IN PURSUIT OF THE PRIZE
HE'LL DREAM THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM
HIS VISION SET FAR BEYOND THE SKIES

I LOVE THE ONE CALLED BLACK MAN
HE KNOWS HE'S BORN TO BE FREE
FROM BIRTH TO THE GRAVE
A PACT HE HAS MADE
CLAIMING LIFE, LOVE, AND LIBERTY

I LOVE THE ONE CALLED BLACK  MAN
FOR HE'LL RISE FROM THE WOUNDS OF THE PAST
WITH TEARS IN HIS EYES AND A CRY IN HIS HEART
THANK GOD ABOVE  I'M FREE, FREE AT LAST
